MULTAN: This is with reference to “UAE workers can break Ramazan fast in extreme heat: fatwa” (August 9). I think there’s nothing wrong in this fatwa as Islam clearly says that a fast can be broken during a critical situation.

Let us not forget that Islam is a practical religion for those who are travelling or who are ill as they do not have to fast. The same is the case with alcohol which is forbidden but allowed under special circumstances when the individual’s life may be at risk. I would say that the said fatwa is an example of such special circumstances.
