The district administration on Monday directed industries to stop disposing of effluent into the sewage drains until the end of the monsoon season.
The directive was issued by District Coordination Officer (DCO) Naseem Sadiq during a meeting.
He said the government had learnt that textile processing, printing, dyeing and chemicals factories were pumping their waste matter into the sewage drains. He said the practice could result in clogging of drains, creating problems for the people during the monsoon season.
He said strict action would be taken against industries found discharging waste into the sewer pipes.
The DCO directed the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) officials at the meeting to ensure that their equipment was in order.
He said rainwater should be pumped out immediately from the low-lying areas of the city.
