Nishter hospital: ‘Lab will soon be upgraded’

Dr Akhtar said the machine would improve efficiency.

Nishter Medical Institute principal Dr Samee Akhtar said on Saturday that steps were being taken to upgrade a central laboratory at the institute.


He said a computerised analyser machine would soon be installed at the NMI. He was briefing a meeting of Board of Management of NMI. Mian Sultan Ahmed Gormani was in the chair. Besides the NMI principal, Medical Superintendent Dr Javed Umar, Prof Muhammad Afzal Bodla, Prof Pervez Akbar Khan, Finance Director Muhammad Ziaul Haq, EDO (Health) Dr Fazalul Rehman, Deputy Director (Local Fund Audit) Mehr Atta Muhammad, Dr Zaffar Alvi and Dr Muhammad Siddique Khan Qadri were also present.

Dr Akhtar said the machine would improve efficiency. He said results of about 800 tests would be available in an hour. Currently, he said, it took the lab five to six hours to do 800 tests.  He said seating arrangements in the waiting area would also be improved. The meeting approved more than Rs1 million for purchase of medicine, Rs400,000 million for tents for a mosque, Rs 5.5 million for eight steel electric polls and five transformers. The meeting also approved paid job for 50 new house officers.
