According to Indian media reports, Malik featured in a Delhi club tournament, just a few days after representing Pakistan in the second Twenty20 against Sri Lanka. The reports quoted senior Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials expressing their surprise as even the Delhi & Districts Cricket Association (DDCA) did not inform the board about the Pakistani’s participation. According to the report, apart from the IPL, the BCCI does not allow foreign players to feature in domestic tournaments.
Meanwhile, a PCB official said that the all-rounder will be questioned on his participation.
“We were unaware his involvement,” the official told The Express Tribune. “We’ll question him since he’s a centrally contracted player but we cannot take any decision without hearing from him.”
Another official, however, downplayed the controversy.
“The event wasn’t held under the BCCI’s umbrella,” he said. “Participation in an ordinary event is not an offence. The permission is required for sanctioned and major leagues or tournaments. We haven’t received any message from the BCCI yet.”
Meanwhile, Malik refused to comment when contacted.
