The forensics laboratory will submit its report within a week's time.
LAHORE:
The five women allegedly raped by members of the Border Military Police near Fort Munro last week, and the three accused, have travelled to the Forensic laboratory in Lahore to undergo medical examinations, Express News reported early Wednesday morning.
Express News correspondent Saqib Saleem Butt said that eight people, including the five women and the three officers had reached the forensic lab in Lahore where Director General Tahir and his team would be conducting their medical examination and DNA tests.
Butt said that the officials said they would be submitting a report of the medical examination within a week’s time.
Five girls, hailing from Dera Ghazi Khan were held captive and gang-raped by police at their station in a village on the border between Pakistan and India, officials confirmed on Saturday.
Three suspects – Amjad Ali, Ahmed Zafar and Naveed Iqbal – were arrested, while two others are at large. The victims identified the fourth suspect as Majeed Leghari.
The rape victims told an investigation on Sunday that they could identify all five personnel accused of the crime, including the two men who have escaped. They also revealed that the BMP officials had filmed the gang rape and had threatened to make the footage public if the girls dared to disclose the sequence of events.
Higher authorities, including the Commandant of Border Military Police and even President Asif Ali Zardari had taken notice of the incident with the latter demanding a report of the case. He said strict action would be taken against those involved. He also directed them to ensure the safety of the victims.
A National Assembly panel on human rights summoned BMP commandant Basra on Sunday. The NA standing committee on human rights also summoned the concerned district police officer and district coordination officers in the case.
