Proclaimed offenders: 1 killed in encounter, another arrested

SIALKOT:
A proclaimed offender was killed in a shootout on Friday. Police said Ghulam Fareed was killed in an encounter while trying to flee from the police. They said a police team was escorting him to Sialkot from Head Marala police station, when on the way, he snatched a gun from a policeman and shot in the air. When he tried to flee while shooting at the police, they said, the police shot back killing him on the spot. Police said Fareed, a resident of Renala Khurd in Okara district, was a member of a gang that stole cars. Police claimed that the deceased was wanted in 24 cases in various police stations across the province. Also on Friday, police have claimed to have arrested a proclaimed offender, Chan Pir. They said the police had announced Rs1 million head money for him. DPO Afzaal Ahmad Kausar said the man was arrested in a raid. He was wanted for murder, kidnapping for ransom and robbery, the DPO said.
