No accountability: ‘Embankments not repaired properly’

SUKKUR: Irrigation Mazdoor Union employees staged a demonstration outside the offices of the executive engineer in Mirpur Mathelo on Wednesday to protest against the substandard work a private contractor was doing to repair the Raunti and Dilwaro bunds. The protesters, led by Mukhtiar Kolachi, Ali Hassan Chandio and others, said that the contractor, Sher Mohammad Mugheri, was working without any fear of accountability. If the repairs were not done properly, the embankments could be washed away by floods, claimed the employees. SIDA director Anwar Sial said that he and the executive engineer had visited the site on June 4 and found that the contractor was not working according to the specifications provided by the irrigation department.
