Both announcements were made at a literary conference during which tributes were paid to the noted scholar, educationist and researcher. The conference was held in collaboration with the academy of letters and the education minister, Pir Mzaharul Haq, was the chief guest. The education minister said that the late Dr Baloch was an internationally recognised scholar and educational expert.
The education minister recalled that his grandfather, Pir Illahi Bux, was a politician, yet he used to take academic advice from Dr Baluch.
While framing the national education policy, a meeting of educational experts was held at Dr Baluch’s residence and he played a key role in this process, said Mazhar. It was such a vibrant and practical policy that, if implemented, would have solved many problems encountered nowadays. Dr Baloch wanted seven per cent of the GDP to be allocated to the education sector, which presently is only 1.2 %, Mazhar said.
ZA Nizami also commented that Dr Baloch had a deep association with the Sir Syed University and he remained on the board of governors till possible. The SSUET had collected valuable material about his life and achievements and would publish it. The noted scholars and writers Dr Nawaz Ali Shauq and Mazhar Siddiqui, also spoke at the event. PPI
