Additional District and Sessions Judge Javed Iqbal Shaikh granted an adjournment until June 4 at the request of the respondent’s counsel on a petition seeking a case against Syed Abdul Qadir Gilani, son of Prime Minster Yousaf Raza Gilani, and another man for alleged fraud.
Gilani’s counsel filed a power of attorney for his client on Monday and then sought time to prepare.
Petitioner Nauman Ahmed had submitted that he was a close friend of Gilani and another man named Shabbir Ahmed. He said that the two visited his house on March 27, 2012, and offered to get him into a senior position at the Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited, provided he paid them Rs400,000.
He said that he gave them Rs300,000 in cash and a cheque for Rs80,000. He said that they agreed to the deal and promised that he would have his appointment letter in seven to 10 days.
He told the court that he waited 20 days and then approached Gilani, who flared up when asked about the matter. He said that Gilani threatened him and told him he could not be touched as his father was prime minister.
Nauman Ahmed submitted that he had moved applications for a fraud case against the two men with the capital city police officer and the North Cantonment station house officer, but they had refused to register a case because one of them was the prime minister’s son.
He asked the court to direct the police officials to register a fraud case against Abdul Qadir Gilani and Shabbir Ahmed.

A golden chance for the PCO judges to get busy again. The SC should take up this case as their top priority, now the Memo case has lost steam.
