Roddick beaten by Berlocq on return
American loses opening World Team Cup encounter in straight sets.
DUSSELDORF:
Andy Roddick was beaten in straight sets on his return from injury by Argentina’s Carlos Berlocq in his opening World Team Cup match yesterday.
The 29-year-old American, ranked 27th in the world, was playing his first match in two months following a hip injury and he looked rusty, going down 6-2, 6-2 in 90 minutes in the Red Group tie.
He last competed at Miami’s hardcourt tournament in late March, where he upset Roger Federer in the third round, only to go down 7-5, 6-0 to Argentina’s Juan Monaco in the next round. Roddick has failed to get beyond the quarter-finals of any of the six tournaments he has played this year.
