Meerut kabab house: Police nominates four people
The police nominated four men of a “particular sect” on Wednesday.
KARACHI:
The police nominated four men of a “particular sect” on Wednesday for shooting and killing 35-year-old Muhammad Ali, the owner of the Meerut Kabab House in Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
Ali and a cook were gunned down on Monday while three workers were injured when men opened fire outside the restaurant, said DSP Pervez Iqbal.
“From what we know, this was a sectarian killing,” he said, refuting the reports that the murders could have taken over extortion. “Ali’s brother was killed last February under similar circumstances. This was no coincidence.”
An FIR has been registered at the Aziz Bhatti Police Station but the names of the nominated people have not been disclosed due to the ongoing investigation.
“Ali was reportedly involved in construction of a mosque in Lalukhet and the other sect was not in favour,” elaborated DSP Iqbal.
Ali belonged to the Deobandi school of thought and was known to be deeply religious.
