Gilani will continue to hold prime minister's post: Govt

SC found Gilani guilty of contempt of court for refusing to reopen corruption cases against President Zardari.

ISLAMABAD:
Despite being convicted for contempt of court by the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani will continue to hold the premier’s post, the Minister for Law and Justice Farooq H Naek said while reading the government's official policy statement during the National Assembly session on Thursday.

An apex court bench found Gilani guilty of contempt of court for refusing to reopen corruption cases against President Asif Ali Zardari and gave him a symbolic sentence of a few minutes’ detention in the courtroom.

Naek further added that the assembly speaker has the prerogative to decide Gilani’s fate. “You are the final arbitrator,” Naek said, addressing NA Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza.

The Law and Justice minister said that the government will now ask for a review of the court's decision once the SC issues the detailed judgement of the case.
