Karachi Central Jail: Despair, neglect and broken walls

Security level at central jail remains low, leaving a chance for intrepid inmates to easily break out.

KARACHI:
Karachi Central Jail, a place meant to have high security, has been a sight of utter despair and neglect with inadequate security arrangements.

The low and broken boundary walls of the jail not only provide an opportunity for children to jump in and out, but also provide ambitious inmates an added impetus to break out.

The watchtowers are unoccupied, the gates are being guarded by only two men, and a bridge right outside the jail still remains under-construction.

Apparently, the recent Bannu jail break has not had any impact on Karachi jail authorities, who seem content with sluggish security.

According to a recent report by Geo News, Sindh Minister for Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Prisons Ayaz Soomro declared four Sindh jails as sensitive following the Bannu attack. These include central jails of Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur and Landhi.
