Police shoot and kill suspected robber

DSP says suspect was wanted for a dozen dacoities.

A suspected robber was shot and killed after being stopped by the police at a picket near Thokar Niaz Beg on Saturday, police officials said.


Fourteen Mobiles squad personnel stopped a Qing Qi rickshaw at the picket in Chuhng police jurisdiction and asked to search the passengers, who included Muhammad Adnan, 23, a resident of People’s Colony in Vehari, said Sadar SP (Investigation) Mustafa Hameed Malik.

He was carrying a bag full of tools including a wrench, said the SP, and the police asked him to step out so they could search his person. At this point, Adnan took out two guns and fled on foot into an empty plot near the Metro store.


The police surrounded the plot and Adnan was trapped, he said.

The SP said that Adnan opened fire at the policemen first, after which they responded. Adnan was shot and later died in hospital.

A case was registered against Adnan under various sections including for attempted murder and assault on a public servant on the complaint of ASI Muhammad Ahmad.

Chuhng DSP Shoaib Ahmad said that Adnan was wanted in 12 dacoity cases registered in Lahore and Vehari, and had been challaned in at least one dacoity case.
