Before Veena Malik became the talk of the town — due to her alleged photo shoot for FHM and later an item song “Channo”, revealing her signature sleaze — we had our ever notorious Meera. New people may come and go but Meera’s popularity doesn’t seem to fizzle out and the actor continues to grab headlines.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Lollywood diva met up with journalists at the Karachi Union of Journalists office, and talked in detail and her spiritual side, about receiving the Sitara-i-Imtiaz while blatantly avoiding questions regarding her wedding plans.
Religion — A new factor in Meera’s life
Clad in jeans and a silk top, Meera, who was clutching black rosary beads, was seen constantly reciting some verses — which she termed as “zikr-e-Allah”. On turning religious, the actor said, “I am trying to be a religious person and I’m taking Quran classes from Tahirul Qadri these days. He has also gifted me the Holy Book and I’m busy learning more about my religion through it.”
Meanwhile, she further added that a conscious effort to fulfil religious obligations has also changed her day-to-day routine to a great extent. “My daily routine has changed greatly; I wake up early for my fajr prayers and that’s the start of my hectic schedule. I’ve also become more punctual as I arrive for appointments much before the scheduled time,” said Meera.
The actor also announced that she is going for Umrah next week. “Recently, a multinational company offered me to go on a fully funded vacation and I thought I’d better go for Umrah. Hence, next week I will be going for Umrah for two days.”
‘Thank you Mr President’
Meanwhile, Meera also took this opportunity to thank the government, especially the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan, for awarding her the Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Star of Excellence). “Sometimes, the award is bestowed after the recipient has passed away and that way you don’t get a chance to fully enjoy the glory. However, I am one of those few lucky people who have been awarded in her lifetime, and I would want to thank the government for recognising my talent.”
Word woes
However, try as she might, the notorious actor is never too far away from embarrassing situations. While talking about how the state of the local film industry is improving, the sultry actor made a remark that left the audience surprised. “Look where Lollywood stands today in the world — Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has won an Oscar.”
While Meera may not realise that Obaid-Chinoy is not associated with Lollywood, the journalists present in the audience were certainly equipped with more knowledge regarding the Oscar-winning documentarian and film-makert. “But Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy did not win an award for a Lollywood film,” pointed out a member of the audience. The flustered actor then replied, “Whatever, she is a Pakistani and she won an Oscar for the country.”
Wedding bells?
On another front, when asked about her wedding plans, Meera dodged the question very artfully, “I will speak to you about this later, for I have a flight to catch at 7 pm. I am getting late.” The actor then rushed out without even having a cup of tea with the journalists.

@Meena Gabeena: and yet inexplicably the oscars still have the 'best actress' category and not best actor female or something!!!!!
Lol let the poor girl live...

Just browsed through the Oscars homepage. The word "actress" is still in use. "Poetess", however, is definitely out.
Its all Drama again.......................
Anything can change the heart of any person....This is very pleasant change in meera sahiba... Allah inko istiqamat dey aur hum sab ko Relegiously strong karey.... ameen
@Naveed Khan @Adnan Mir @Arif With due respect for all three, Do you allow such kind of boldness and nudity to women of your family members. I think you will not because our religion, our ethics and our culture does not allow us to do so.
The operative word is GRAVITATING. Gravity makes all the difference.
@Mohsin Naqi: The word "actress" is not used these days. It is the gender-neutral "actor" that is in vogue.
@Muhammed Usama Aziz
People in stone age didn't have to face criticism everyday for getting nude. Everyone was nude back then. What resistance you face, what you fight for and win, that alone matters. Hats off to Veena.
I guess her recent experience has taught her a lesson. Nevertheless kudos to meera on pursuing this true facet of life..
.........next stop, a shot at politics ???
@Mohsin Naqi the term is Actor for both genders now... just like chairman became chair person... professional designations do not seperate genders...so we use Actor for males and females both now.. just for ur info...
And Veena Malik And Meera are both stunning, talented people.. respect for both :)
Likewise the PKR currency, Our honorary awards are degrading.
@Naveed Khan: @Adnan Mir: If nudity shows the boldness of a women, then people from stone age were more bold than her. And it does not only apply to women, same goes for men also.
why are u all talking abt veena, when the article is abt meera... lol!
"actress" not "actor".
@Naveed Khan:
Veena's perseverance and determination in the face of extreme hatred thrown her way warrants apprecition and applause. She has made decisions for her own life, she hasn't allowed any man to dictate how her life should be, what she can and what she cannot do. A lot of men hate her because she has dared to do what is every pakistani man's worst nightmare: a strong , independent, self-earning woman who is not dependent on them, who doesn't obey their commands like a slave.
A lot of women hate her also because that's what they've been brainwashed from birth to do , that is, hate and ridicule any woman who doesn't obey the men in the family, our girls are taught from a young age that 'achi' 'sharif' girls don't think for themselves, let the men in their lives make the decisions of their lives and since Veena contradicts this ,she is abused and hated.
But the misogynistic haters use religion & culture to hide behind when attacking strong , independent women.
Veena malik deserves accolades for not being a slave to the demands of a misogynistic and patriarchal society. She's gone ahead and done with her life what she wanted, she didn't get cowed down by the anger,bigotry and hate directed towards her by the bearded and non-bearded mullahs in our society.
Respect for Meera & Respect for Veena!!
