Custody issue: Woman moves LHC for child’s return

Petitioner says her husband went to Bangladesh with their 4 year-old daughter after the couple’s relationship ended

LAHORE:
The Lahore High Court on Thursday sought a reply from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs within a week on a petition from a woman seeking the return of her daughter, who lives with her father in Bangladesh. Kausar, the petitioner, submitted that her husband Aminul Haq, who she had wed in 2006, had flown to Bangladesh with their four-year-old daughter after the couple’s relationship broke down. She said that under the law, she was the child’s rightful custodian. She said she had written several letters to Pakistani and Bangladeshi authorities for her daughter’s return but had been ignored. She asked the court to order the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to arrange for her recovery through diplomatic channels.
