Power generation: AJK govt pledges Rs130b for power

An investment of Rs4 billion has already been made to cultivate tea in AJK.

MIRPUR: The AJK government will create a comprehensive package of reforms to enhance power generation and agricultural yields in the state, officials stated on Thursday. “An investment of Rs130 billion will be made for hydropower generation,” sources revealed, adding that an investment of Rs4 billion has already been made to cultivate tea in AJK. With these funds, an additional 1,000 megawatts (MW) of hydel power could be generated to meet the shortage of electricity in the country, according to officials. They stated that over 5,000MW of power could be produced if the available water resources in AJK are fully utilised. The AJK government has invited concerned private and public-sector organisations apart from current investors, to invest in the projects, officials stated.
