Spring time: Nowruz festival opens at Lok Virsa
Two-day event organised by Iranian cultural consulate.
A two-day festival marking Nowruz — the Persian new year — kicked off at Lok Virsa on Monday, according to a press release.
The event has been organised by the Iranian cultural consulate in collaboration with the National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage, and was opened by Information Minister Firdous Ashiq Awan.
“Pakistan and Iran enjoy very cordial relations based on the universal principles of equality and brotherhood,” Awan said after inaugurating the festival at the Heritage Museum.
“Pakistan and Iran share great similarities in culture and traditions,” she said.
Iranian Cultural Counsellor Taghi Sadeghi shed light on the important features of the event. The festival features arts and craft, miniatures, books, photographs, paintings, feature films and devotional folk music from Iran.
Tracing its history back to the Zoroastrian era, Nowruz recalls the cosmological and mythological times of Iran. The celebration is made according to the dynamics of love between the Creator and his creation, the material world.
