IED attack on police van in Mattani area, no casualties

Officials usually gather at police stations to offer condolences on SP Kalam Khan's death in suicide attack.

PESHAWAR:
A remote-controlled bomb attack on a police van on Saturday in the Mattani area damaged the vehicle but the policemen remained unhurt.

The attack came at the time when gatherings were being held in police stations across the area in memory of senior police official Kalam Khan who was killed in a suicide attack on Thursday.

The bomb, which was placed at the side of the road, was a remote-controlled IED (Improvised Explosive Device), Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Tahir Ayub said.

“The bomb was of around 4kg that was used to target the police. However, our men remained unhurt,” he added.

The incident occurred in the Darwazgai locality of Kohat road and falls in the jurisdiction of Mattani Police Station, where police officials throughout the area usually gather to pay tribute to Khan.

Khan was heading the police force in the troubled rural areas of Peshawar and was killed in a suicide attack when he was on a routine check near the Pishtakhara chowk.
