Man posing as lawyer arrested from court

Says he had twice argued cases in the past.

GUJRANWALA:

A man, posing as a lawyer and arguing as the counsel for a drug pushing suspect, was caught from a sessions court on Friday while in the middle of the proceedings.

Civil lines Station House Officer Rana Asghar told The Express Tribune that Muhammad Javed, who is a clerk at a lawyer’s office, would be presented before a court on Saturday (today).

A case was registered against the suspect on directions of Additional Sessions Judge Nisar Ahmed under Sections 186 and 506 of the Pakistan Penal Code. Javed later told the Civil Lines police that he had posed as a lawyer in the past too.

He said he had twice appeared before the court and argued without being noticed. He was a clerk at a lawyer’s office in the city, he added.

The imposter was caught by Advocates Anayatul Rasool and Azeem Bhatti when he failed to present an identity card to Additional Sessions’ Judge Jazila Aslam. He had appeared before the judge as the counsel for one Muhammad Abbas, arrested in a narcotics case. He had already presented arguments, seeking acceptance of Abbas’s bail plea by the time the judge questioned him about his identity.
