ISLAMABAD:

Targeting mosquito-breeding sites in the rural areas of the capital, the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration has finalised a two-year plan for the elimination of dengue. This was stated by an ITC official on Monday.

He said that over 14 teams were constituted in 2011, which would be made operative this year. They would focus on vulnerable areas for preventing the spread of dengue through anti-mosquito fumigation in the rural areas of the city. “Data on dengue patients compiled last year is being reviewed and vulnerable areas will be identified by the teams, giving special attention to positive cases reported,” he said.

Approximately 100,000 pamphlets with preventive information would be distributed among the local community. The primary focus of the first round would be social mobilisation and creating community awareness about anti-dengue measures.

Fogging, fumigation and anti-mosquito spraying will be conducted during the second round of the campaign.
