US Deputy Secretary stresses commitment to Pakistan

Tom Nides meets Sherry Rehman, says US has provided over $2.6b in civilian assistance to Pakistan since October 2009.

WASHINGTON: US Deputy Secretary of State Tom Nides, in a meeting with Pakistan’s Ambassador to the US Sherry Rehman, said that the US has provided over $2.6 billion in civilian assistance to Pakistan since October 2009, including about $800 million in emergency flood relief.

According to an official readout of the meeting provided by the State Department, Nides "reiterated the United States’ continuing commitment to the people of Pakistan".

The press release said that both Ambassador Rehman and Deputy Secretary Nides "agreed to continue such conversations to ensure transparency and clarity on US assistance to Pakistan".
