QUETTA: Following the murder of Gwadar Deputy Commissioner Abdul Rehman Dashti in Karachi on Monday, a complete shutter down strike was observed in Kech district on Tuesday to mark a protest.

Dashti had been laid to rest in his ancestral town of Dasht, near Turbat city in Balochistan earlier on Tuesday with local tribal elders present.

Shops, trading centres and educational institutions remained closed for the day to signify a protest against his murder.

A group of men had forced some of shopkeepers to close their shops near Turbat.

According to relatives, who had spoken with Dashti’s driver, said the victim had gone to Karachi to visit some of his family members. “Dashti was invited by his friend, Mir Imam Baksh, also known as Imam Bheel, to his house.” Bheel is a well known Kech business man, and father of Yaqoob Bezinjo. They have a house on Khayaban-e-Tanzeem, where Dashti’s body was recovered.

“During the visit, Dashti and Bheel developed a quarrel over an unknown issue. The DC then left the house after exchanging harsh words with Imam Bheel. However, the DC went back to reconcile with Imam Bheel. But upon reaching the house, Dashti was shot at,” one of the relatives narrated quoting the DC’s driver.

The relatives intend to lodge an FIR against the accused, and press charges.
