ISLAMABAD:

Filled with enthusiasm, the annual sports day at the Islamabad Model College for Girls F-6/2 wrapped up here on Tuesday.

Students participated in different games and matches, which tested their physical and mental faculties. They demonstrated skills in hurdles race, sack race, skipping rope race, slow cycling, karate and tug of war.

The game of musical chairs was particularly thrilling. A tableau on the theme of jungle was performed by children, who fashioned themselves as animals and flowers. Clad in traditional attire, the students also sang different regional songs of the country.

Students competed in basketball, football, cricket, volleyball and badminton.

Zehra, a student who performed karate on the occasion, said that the skill not only keeps her physically active and fit but also secure and confident in the sense that she could defend herself. “Every girl should be physically fit and smart and know how to defend herself.”

Meanwhile, garbed in a Balochi dress, another student, Mehwish, said, “I feel very proud to be wearing the traditional dress of Balochistan. This is our way of showing solidarity for them through difficult times for their province.”

The College Principal Prof. Rehana Rashid underlined the importance of sports and physical training to groom the youth as well-rounded personalities.

She added that sports are a healthy outlet to channel energies in a constructive way, and inculcate team spirit and a sense of healthy competition. Prizes and certificates were awarded to the winners of inter-house competitions in which the students participated with great enthusiasm and sportsmanship.
