Hizbut Tahrir (HuT) has come to the defence of Brigadier Ali Khan and four other military officers who are currently being court-martialled due to their alleged ties to the banned militant outfit. Describing Brig Khan as one of the most capable officers in the army, HuT has bitterly criticised the establishment over its decision to try him in a military court.
Brig Khan was arrested in May last year. A day later four army majors were also arrested for alleged links with HuT. Sources say the military trial is currently in process; Brig Khan is also accused of attempted mutiny.
In an SMS and also through a statement on its website, HuT, which was banned in Pakistan in 2004, expressed its disappointment over the trial decision.
Highlighting what it called Brig Khan’s “illustrious military career,” the statement said that he is “an officer of humble origins from Punjab province who had a distinguished thirty-two year military career and was a gold medalist.”
“Army officers who had served with Brigadier Ali Khan stated that he had been exerting influence on the military leadership to stop the alliance with America in its crusade against the Muslims of the tribal areas and Afghanistan,” the statement added.
Matters came to a head when Brig Khan openly challenged the then Chief of Army Staff, General Pervez Musharraf, in the military’s prestigious Quetta Staff College as to why Musharraf did not make public the details of the alliance agreement with the US.
He further demanded a clear definition of the ‘limits’ of the alliance with the US. Gen Musharraf presided personally over the promotion board a few weeks later and denied Brig Khan’s expected promotion to Major General.

@Arbab: Read Surah Al' muaidha ayyat 44,45,47. And Surah Al'Imran 110. And after that u stil think it's only to take the power than u r total wrong. It is about to obey what Allah swt has revild. And thats what HT. R doing
Considering the track record of armed forces since 1947... one must be blind and deaf to believe anything from army leadership.
*They also say their is no corruption in army. *They also say they have no business interests. *They also say drone don't fly from within Pakistan. *Air chief marshal in 2008 said "America should not exceed limits, we will shoot down the drone", same guy in 2010 "We are not capable of shooting down the drones" *They talk about closing NATO supply lines, but the route through Chamman remain open. *They held meetings in America before extending their terms. *They also say ISI have not abducted anyone. & Musharraf in his book says that he received from $5000 to $Millions for providing suspects to America. *Treatment of national hero Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan.
The list is long......
What Mr. Naveed But said, what is its athunticity? This all he assumed. He did not have any solid proof, any documentation in his hand. Pakistan Trible areas should not be out of access and the efforts have been made by the previous govt to have access and consider them as our other areas to stop crimes. For example most of our vehicles are stolen and driven to NO GO areas and then sold to any terrorist or after changing the chasis, these were against sold. Our most of people use to purchse the cheap cars from those areas, how there cheap. Similarly kidnapping and serious criminal people hide themselves there. Therefore, Mr. But's views can be correct and cannot be. We should believe on our Armed Forces rather than political parties.
I saw the video above^... its true word to word. Great analysis... must watch for all.
I've checked above mentioned HizbutTahrer websites, searched Pakistan HizbutTahrer on google and found this as well http://www.hizb-pakistan.com/ ..... logo is same, is this website yours as well? These websites are full of great analysis and truth.
@Mazin: Would love to know your organization view on terrorism, blasphemy law, religious freedom, women rights, education for all, obeying traffic rules.
@Mazin: I want to join it.
Watch this Video fully and then post your comments.
I'm a member of Hizb ut Tahrir. The Hizb's name means "Party of Liberation" and is a political party that takes all its thoughts, goals and methodologies from Islam and Islam alone. It was established in 1953 and its primary goal - aside from pleasing God - is to re-establish the Islamic State (also known as the Caliphate) that was destroyed on March 3rd, 1924. It is one of the last Muslim groups remaining in the Muslim world that has never once compromised any of its principles, beliefs or methods, regardless of the losses or the gains, since it does not base its methods on an arbitrary cost-benefit analysis, and instead takes all its rules directly from the texts of Islam, making them unchangeable.
If you would like know more about the Hizb, you can go to http://www.hizb-ut-tahrir.org and http://www.hizb-ut-tahrir.info and find further reading on the thoughts, methods and goals of Hizb ut Tahrir.
Freedom is a myth that can't exist in practice. Every system have rules to run affairs in all aspects of the state. Rules differ from system to system. So there is nothing called freedom, there are just rules rules and rules.... including the rules to protect the system itself.
Brig. Ali is one of the remaining sincere people in army who dared to risk his career and life and speak against oppression and stand for people of Pakistan. Even by Democratic standards he should be receiving Awards - I was told democracy is by, of & for the people, but in a system in where sons of country are killed and daughters are sold for $'s and heroes like Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan are treated like scum, nothing positive can be expected of this system, whether democracy or dictatorship. People is West are asking for alternative to Capitalism - and in Pakistan army & politicians keep feeding us the same poison over & over again.
What's this group Hizbut Tahrir? Can someone tell me more about it. If any people of this group are on this thread please reply.
@m waqas: Most Muslims are Muslims because they were born as muslims and pretend to be Muslims but at heart are not Muslims or do not agree with its message.
Hizb ut Tahrir calls for the implementation of Islam, and the return of the Khilafah as foretold by the Messenger of Allah (swt).
Plain and simple.
If you are a Muslim, it's even plainer and simpler.
It reminds me the story behind tne idur juha . Every muslim sloughter a animal to express his love to allah in tne same manner now army has to sacrifice a so called talented and experienced officer to please the god of Pakistan ie USA and rest of the west . It would be also in the interest of the country that no one will dare to even think of about mutiny . It will enough to slap HuT as well very clearly ,the so called highly educatrd group of noble people of Pakistan .
However, your this part.
HUT is not a militant organization
@Muhammad: Expressing your opinion is fair as long as you don't incite people to mutiny, or murder. Wait till these HuT dreamers demand a separate khilafah for muslims in England and watch them get banned too. This reminds me, why don't they ask for a khilfat for muslims in England? Hypocrisy much?
Freedom of Expression will always be answered with Freedom of Explosion
@MUNIB: You can only wish against it but Taliban are our future
What kind of khilafat do they want? Ottoman? Abbasid? Umayyad? These were all monarchies based on dynasties. Islam has not given any specific system of governance. It has demanded "consulation" ( Mushawarat) . That is there in Democracy.
We do not want these obnoxious organizations whose only creed is" holier than thou"
If Grig Ali wanted to work for HuT, he should have left Army service. The illegal activity is illegal whoever does it. He should be sorted out according to law of his organization( Army)
Everybody has a right to express their views, thats what democracy claims (Pakistan is democratic at the moment). One can't label others being evil if they oppose the idea of any xyz concept. It should be perfectly reasonable for people to disagree with democracy (from the value of democratic ideas). If people are against democracy, then how valid does that democracy remain? If its not what people want, then let it be fair, let them have a fair chance of change (i.e., system), otherwise who is really exposed here, every sane person could easily sense that. Regarding HT sending sms to people's phone lines, it simply represent one point, they don't get a free chance of freedom of speech (as per democratic values), thereby they seem to be compelled to make sms campaign. If HT wants to reach out people then why the hell champions of democracy afraid of their voices (not taking about individuals here)? Why not ask HT to come before media set and make their point right before people on prime time shows (on known well TV channels), if HT has strength of argument they will get what they want (and there is nothing wrong in giving a fair chance, if one believes in freedom of speech). I am really shocked how can people call an organization as militant when what it just want is to reach out people and change the system in the way as they explain to people. Why is it so important to force people to believe in democracy (if thats people's democracy then what else would you call as forced system or iron fist).
@faraz: do tell us more
@ Kafka: it is called freedom of expression.
It is not the first time ET has used the label of "militant" for Hizb ut Tahrir. I wonder where this research comes from. (HuT has never been a part of violence and militancy. It believes in an intellectual effort towards achieving its goal, and whoever does that, should be allowed to profess and spread their ideas in a truly liberal society. But here we have more secular extremists than liberals).
@faraz: Absolutely right. Islamic system is any system that rules with justice. Khilafat is as islamic as democracy.
@Kafka: Because they have the support of people like Brig. Ali
The first four caliphs were elected by different methods. After bitter disputes, 2 major civil wars and deaths of thousands of Companion, this khilafat culminated in a dynastic monarchy. Umayyad, Abbasids, Fatmid, Safavid, Ottoman etc. were monarchies where the ruler appointed his relative as the next ruler. Nobody can take seriously who talks of global caliphate. Why don’t you first unit the Muslims of Karachi where thousands have died in religious, sectarian, ethnic conflict; you will realize the hollowness of your ideas.
There is no Islamic way of governance. In those times, the monarchy, which you term khilafat, was the system followed all over the world. The Islamic monarch is no different from any other monarch. Islam has defined some broad principles, not a system. The world Khilafat is not even mentioned in Quran. Read proper history instead of mythical tales of glory. Have you read the spicy history of harems of Umayyad, Abbasids and Ottoman?
HuT is more dangerous than TTP who only indulge in violence but not poison people and military personnel minds to revolt against govt and indulge in mutiny repectively. They use technical and sophisticated means to circulate their ideology. The miltary has taken the right step to nip the evil in the bud.
@faraz: This is not an idea, for your kind information it is the system given by almighty ALLAH . As long muslims observed this system they ruled the world with dignity and honour.
@ Faraz; before mocking at Khilafat you should learn the Islamic way of governing the state. Use freedom of speech ; but dnt make the fun of Islamic system
Discipline is Discipline, the incident happened in May last year the decision is taken now, it means matter is fully interrogated. If such actions are not taken, our Pakistan Army cannot stay as a disciplined institute. Therefore, we should support. the decision either HT is banned or not banned organisation. A military man is strictly prohibited to link with any political party even for a specific period after leaving or retire from job.
@MUNIB: what do you know of HuT that you call them militant?
Hizbut Tehrir isnt banned in Pakistan yet.
For the love of God can we please take care of our own before we go on these ridiculous fool's errands of being the worldwide protectors of Islam. How can a country that can;t even feed, cloth, or educate its own people sit there and pretend to be holier than thou?!?!?!?
There is no second opinion about HT. HT is a hardcore militant organization which has infiltrated in the military and had indoctrinated many of the top brass military officials so far. The indoctrination process within the military has not ended yet.
Despite all differences, HuT is not militant organization and therefore, UK refuses US to ban HuT in UK. ET as newspaper you are responsible to keep facts intact and your opinion may be given elsewhere. Please correct your information.
Hisb ut Tahrir is a peacfull organisation and only struggling for a khelafa in the muslim world . why do we oppose the khelafa when it is the recommended system of rulership in islam? . it is surprising that it is not banned in UK but banned in pakistan which is so called islamic republic . why cant we all muslims agree on just quran and sunnah and leave rest of the objections . just make OIC more powerfull and have common muslim army like NATO . is it so hard for muslims to do ? if western powers who had fought wars with each other can agree on common agenda and make European Union then why cant we ?
Analysis that would help you understand the fake rivalry between the government-army & US.
Thank you for your kind response. I just want to clear that its not about declaring some one right or wrong. I just don't want to be disturbed on my cell number. That's all.
Please ask the media to invite people from HuT and expose the idea of khilafah, IF you are right!!!!!!!!! Besides, if its that ridiculous, why is it still banned in the ELITOCRATIC setup and in the presence of the so called "free judiciary". I would suggest you to read the books again, i am sure you will grasp some idea this time :)....
Their idea of khilafat is so ridiculous and laughable; I think the poor brigadier inspired by Nasim Hijazi novels wanted to become a khalifa himself
Kafka: They have courage, approx cost of one leaflet is Rs. 1 just, so i don't think so that HT requires a bundle of funds to do their campaign, thousands of Rs. can be enough to distribute the leaflets. And as we know the highly educated class represents HT so they can manage easily without external fund.
@Tariq: May Allah save you and your country.
I wish we would stop playing these double games and take a stand against these fear mongers who ruin the religion of Islam in the eyes of the world and commit sins in the name of Jihad! ban HuT for good! instead of just pretending to ban them
Why are secular democrats resorting to banning the voice of HuT, why don't you try to beat the argument by argument???? Indeed secular democracy is retreating!!!!!
Brig. Ali is a sincere and loyal army officer, his only crime is that he dared to challenge Musharraf and then Kiani publicly and in return both prosecuted him.
It's childish to expect a senior officer like Brig Ali to have ties with banned organizations, in fact this campaign to arrest officers who disagree with Army Chief is to suppress resistance in rank & file and force obedience.
Also it's a globally known fact that HuT is not a militant organization, it's purely non-violent, ideology based party that invites intellectuals to debate and discuss socio-political solutions.
Devils advocate ... :)
Why is HuT so powerful, though it is banned? Where do they get their funds and why are their workers able to distribute their "literature" at the door of every mosque in Islamabad on Friday, even though they are banned?
@Hassan Saleem Awan: I agree with you. They are sending their unwanted propaganda on every number they can lay hand on. I have blocked their numbers but every time its a new # which generates ther text messages.
@hassan: what kind of a person you are? Are you a true Muslim?
& ET, who asked you to brand HuT as a terror organization? I certainly expect responsible reporting! If HuT is militant, the every Pakistani is a militant!
HT is a pro-militancy and pro-terror org which is spreading high-tech propaganda agianst state and the democratic setup. i have read there many pamphelts which are openly distributed in mosques in karachi and i would like to reqeust authorities to take notice of this. this org spread hate, it calls for bloddy revolution and mutiny etc and presents parlianement and democracy as evil.
@Hassan change the number.
Hehe..er Hut, by coming to his defence, you just proved the case against him...
May Allah (swt) protect him and give courage to other officers to follow his footsteps. In a corrupt , dishonest and traitor lot of leadership it is very much expected that Mr. Ali will face such consequences by following the right path. Its indeed the right time to put secular Demon-crazy & Capitalism into the dustbin of history....
Why ET propagates wrong information? HT is not a militant organization...
I'm in public relations job. And my cell number is printed on my visiting cards. I don't how and when Hizb Ut Tehrir got my number. Now I get get text messages from them, every time from a new number. Though I don't want to get those text messages. My cellular service provider is unable to help me in this matter. Any one, please?
