Dog bites: 95% of rabies cases in Pakistan

Rabies kills about 70,000 people worldwide each year.

LAHORE: Ninety-five percent of worldwide rabies cases caused by dog bite are reported from Pakistan, speakers at a seminar said here on Sunday. Rabies kills about 70,000 people worldwide each year. Many of these cases in Pakistan are easily preventable if pets are vaccinated, said Prof Akhtar Khan of the University of Animal Sciences at a seminar titled, ‘How easy rabies is to prevent’. The seminar was organised by UVAS in collaboration with the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) and Sadat International.
