Flood devastation (II)
KARACHI:
Given the death and devastation caused by the flood in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir and Punjab, one can only hope that the Sindh government will do the needful and order a mandatory evacuation of all those who live along the banks of the River Indus.
May I also say that the other day I heard a senior Sindh minister say confidently that the flood will not cause much havoc. He said this despite being told that the flood’s current level would severely test both Sukkur and Kotri barrages. Instead of making such fanciful claims, the government should busy itself with protecting the lives of the people – and it can do so by using radio and television to inform them of serious risks.
