LAHORE: Strengthening trade relations will lead to friendly relations between estranged neighbours India and Pakistan, Indian Commerce Minister Anand Sharma has said.

Sharma, who is leading a 16-member Indian commerce delegation visiting Pakistan, said that exhibiting Indian products in Pakistan will create economic opportunities for people on both sides of the border.

The delegation called on Punjab Governor Latif Khosa on Tuesday at the Governor House. Khosa reiterated Pakistan’s desire for friendly relations with all its neighbours, including India, and agreed that bilateral trade ties are vital for prosperity in the region.

The delegation includes Sino-India Partnership Programme Secretary MP Partab Singh Bajwa, Chairperson and Managing Director of the Indian Trade Promotion Organisation Rita Menon, Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan Sharat Sabharwal, Chief of Airtel India Bharti Mithal, President of the Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry RV Kanoria and Hero Group's Sunil Munjal.

The Pakistani delegation includes Commerce Minister Amin Fahim, Commerce Secretary Zafar Mehmood, Pakistani High Commissioner to India Shahid Malik.

Correction: An earlier version of this article had incorrectly stated that Sunil Munjal is the chairman of Hero Group. This has been corrected.
