KARACHI: Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Yousuf has been called into Pakistan’s squad after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) reacted to the heavy loss at Trent Bridge.

In a statement, the PCB announced that the batting maestro has been included in the side with immediate effect while leg-spinner Danish Kaneria has been axed following his disappointing performance on the tour. Left-arm spinner Raza Hasan has been named as Kaneria’s replacement.

Yousuf, who retired from international cricket in March had earlier stated that he was ready to play for Pakistan again under any captain if the PCB invited him.

A PCB official however did not confirm Yousuf’s participation in the second Test saying that there was little time left before the Test starts on August 6 in Birmingham.

“We are not sure of his participation in the second Test but we will make all out efforts to send him before the Test”, the official told The Express Tribune.

‘Kaneria not excluded for the whole series’

A Pakistan team official has said that Danish Kaneria has been dropped from the second Test and the leg-spinner can retain his place in the remaining matches.

“We have released Kaneria to play for Essex so he can retain his form,” said the team management adding the leg spinner may be considered for the rest of the series after his performance with Essex is reviewed. The official also hailed inclusion Raza Hasan in the national side.

“Raza has a lot of potential, everybody has seen his performance in the Under-19 World Cup and he may prove to be an asset,” added the official.

Qadir opposes PCB decision

Former Test cricketer and chief selector Abdul Qadir has opposed the PCB’s decision of sending Yousuf and Raza to England and said that the decision will further affect the team’s composition.

“It’s a wrong decision, the squad already has players who can replace the boys not performing up well,” said Qadir.

shahid mohammed | 13 years ago | Reply Hello and Salaam, Again the PCB has taken a backward step. As I mentioned in an earlier blog re: Kamran Akmal and other things. That inconsistency has veered its ugly head. The players that where banned earlier in the year for all sorts of mistermenors these very players are now being bought back and I think that is highly disrespectful for the PCB to feel that a player although a high class one like Mohammed Yousaf will make a difference in a matter of hours of landing a) Not played much if any cricket in Pakistan Lately, b) Having the physical and mental fitness for 5 days' of cricket – jet lagged, c) finally commanding respect from those players that he caused so much up-roar to. Not to forget England are not the poor side they once where. England posses an all round team which include high class batting, bowling and fielding. Pakistan only has the bowling aspect covered but not 100% The PCB has demonstrated again that it must win and winning is the only option and forget about earlier statements about this being a learning tour for the future. W. Younis and S. Butt welcome to what is going to be a very short stint in charge I’m afraid. But all the best to you. Oh. By the way. Does the PCB actually have people that think about the words that come out of their mouths? Don’t they realise that when they make a statement or ruling that if you over turn your own ruling then the whole world outside of Pakistan actually laugh at you and your policies/rulings. Did you not sit and think? Fine players by where it hurts them the most £££££££££££ and limit endorsement rights. That’ll make them work a little harder But hay ho! I'm sure the policy makers have at least several more foolish mishaps to tell the world about before the end of this tour. Many thanks shahid mohammed
Mohammed Khaliq | 13 years ago | Reply Asalaam Aliakum PCB, As keen follower of Pakistan cricket since the 60s and having played at league level in the UK, it is very disappointing to to see our national sport decline to such a low ebb. I am sure everyone will have an opinion on what needs to be changed. What I do not understand is why have the PCB not blended inexperience with players capable of performing in England? When I first saw the selection of the squad to tour England it was quiet clear that it would struggle in the longer version (Test Matches) of the game in its batting. The bowling looks great on paper and the paceman have delivered, however Danish Kaneria is not able to provide control (wonderful cricketer at county level)and tease out world Class player when called upon unless the track turns on day 1. On subject of Batting, for the tour of England our line up should have comprised of the following(test playing eleven Batting order): 1. Salman Butt 2. Azhar Ali 3. S. Malik 4. Y. Khan 5. M. Yousaf 6. Asim Kamal 7. K. Akmal 8. M. Ameer 9. U. Gull 10. M. Asif 11. S. Ajmal My final submission is for the Minster of sport to have a rethink and appoint a chairman who is a past player without hidden agenda and the appointees below should be of the same calibre and passion for the team to do well. Out of the current PCB board members only Waqar and Aqib are worth their place, Poor Ijaz Ahmed is only good enough for the U19 (and he is good at that post). Come on gents swallow your pride and do the right thing for the Sake of the team and Country and prevent future players defecting to play for South Africa, Australia etc....
