A suspect identified as Zeeshan Ahmed alias Shani was arrested by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) on Monday.
They seized a Kalashnikov from him in a raid carried out in Landhi on a tip-off. They claim that Shani was associated with an extortionist gang led by Sohail and Johnson which was operated from South Africa.
CID SSP Fayyaz Khan said that Shani was associated with medical representatives and had contact details of several doctors and clinics in Karachi. According to the SSP, Shani and his accomplices had killed a man identified as Dr Zahin in 2010. He said that they were not associated with a political party but used their names to extort money.
