The Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah has announced the distribution of 6,000 tractors and 100 thrashers at a 50 per cent subsidy. Other machinery will also be available on subsidy and the allocations will be made to farmers through computerised balloting, he said. He was presiding over a meeting of the Agriculture and Planning and Development Departments on Monday.
On the occasion, he said that the government was striving to endorse all facilities for the development of the agricultural sector. The decision to distribute subsidised machinery is a part of the government’s policy in modernising and mechanising agricultural practices, he said.
He also noted that the agricultural policies of the present government had been instrumental in achieving improved yields and productivity. He attributed this to the policies of seed and fertiliser acquisition, supply of equipment and machinery at subsidised rates and the granting of land to landless classes. All of these have motivated farmers to maximise their potential and personal gains, he said.
Earlier, the Agricultural department presented a detailed briefing informing the minister of the 41 schemes in the pipeline for the current year.
