A police inspector and teenage girl were gunned down in Shershah on Saturday. The authorities claim that the incident took place when the police inspector had tried to stop an attempted robbery.
The inspector was identified as 45-year-old ASI Raheemullah. He worked with the Shershah police station’s intelligence wing and was on-duty near Miran Naka for the Sunni Tehreek’s rally on Saturday.
District West SSP Asif Ejaz Sheikh told The Express Tribune that someone had approached the ASI and told him about four suspects on two motorcycles who were trying to rob a store. He said that the suspects tried to escape when Raheemullah got there and opened fire at him. He added that two of the suspects were injured as the ASI had fired at them too. Raheemullah and Rida were taken to Civil Hospital, Karachi. The ASI used to live in Rasheedabad, Baldia Town and leaves behind seven children.
He had worked with the Shershah police for the last five years. Raheemullah is the third policeman to be killed in the last two days. Two policemen were shot dead in Manghopir on Friday. Their funeral prayers were offered at the Garden police headquarters.
The SSP said that Rida was standing by when firing took place.
He added that they were still looking for the girl’s family. No case was registered when this report was filed. A 10-year-old boy identified as Dilshad and Liaquat, 30, were shot dead in Jahanabad, said the Pak Colony police.
The incident took place an hour before Raheemullah was killed. According to SHO Abdul Moeed Liaquat was a drug dealer and was killed by his friends.
He said that his friends had called him out of the house and shot at him. He added that Dilshad was standing near Liaquat’s house when the suspects opened fire.
