The contracts of selection committee members, including Muhammad Ilyas, Salim Jaffer and Azher Khan, have expired on Friday while Mohsin Khan, who replaced former Test cricketer Iqbal Qasim last March, still holds a valid contract.
Meanwhile, the other selectors, Asif Baloch and Farrukh Zaman, are non-paid members of the panel.
While Illyas, a former Test player, and Azher are tipped to get extensions, there
are reports that Jaffer might fail to get his contract renewed.
Jaffer had earlier raised objections against the country’s cricketing board and the chief selector over selection issues pertaining to the England tour in which none of the committee members were asked for their feedback.
The remarks irked the PCB, which according to officials in its last governing board meeting earlier this month chaired by Ijaz Butt, decided not to renew his contract.
However, when asked, the PCB chairman denied any such development.
“We have not yet decided anything on any of the selectors and neither have we decided anything abot Jaffer’s contract,” Butt told The Express Tribune from Nottingham.
He said the contracts of the selection committee members will be reviewed following his return next week.
“We will assess the performance of all the selection committee members and it is not only about Salim Jaffer,” said Butt, adding only selectors with impressive work will get new contracts.
While the PCB chairman played down any differences with Jaffer, interestingly the former Test pacer had previously told The Express Tribune that he received a message from the PCB confirming his removal.
“I have received a message from the board that I will not get the extension. I don’t know why the PCB is removing me,” said a disgruntled Jaffer.
