An election tribunal of the Lahore High Court on Friday reserved its judgment in a petition seeking disqualification of the parliamentary secretary for religious affairs and auqaf in the Punjab Assembly, Iftikhar Ahmad Khan.
Petitioner Iqbal Khan, who lost the 2008 general election against Iftikhar Khan from PP-81 Jhang, alleged that the parliamentary secretary had contested the election on a fake bachelor’s degree.
He said Khan’s BA degree from Azad Jammu and Kashmir had been obtained by someone else sitting the exams.
The petitioner said Iftikhar Khan was not qualified to be a member of the assembly under Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution. He requested the court to declare him disqualified.
Justice Umar Ata Bandial reserved judgement in the case and adjourned hearings. Iftikhar Khan was elected on a Pakistan Muslim League -Nawaz ticket.
