BAHAWALPUR:

A man killed his mother-in-law and severely beat his wife for refusing to give him drug money on Tuesday.

According to police officials, Moza Noorpur Noranga resident Allah Baksh told The Express Tribune that his daughter Rafia’s husband killed his wife Ashraf Bibi and beat his daughter after she left him for beating her.

Buksh told police officials that his daughter married accused Dilshad nearly three years ago. Dislhad was a resident of Chak18-DNB and was jobless. “He lost his job soon after the marriage and we were supporting him for the longest time. His family refused to help him out because he was an alcoholic and drug addict,” he said. “Dilshad was living in our house for the last six months but we discovered that he used to beat our daughter and when we tried to stop him he threatened us with a gun a couple of times,” he added.

Dilshad’s neighbour Rahmat Khan told police that he had escaped soon after the murder. “He was living with them because his own parents turned him out for his drinking and brawling. A few days ago even his in-laws turned him out,” he added. Buksh’s sister Marufa Bibi told police that two days ago the family decided that they would protect Rafia. “We turned all of his things out of the house and told him to leave. We said we could no longer afford to feed his drug habit and he left.

He returned yesterday and killed my sister-in-law. He also tried to kill Rafia,” she said.

“My daughter used to give him our money all the time because she feared she would be beaten if she didn’t,” Buksh said.  Buksh told the police that on Tuesday Dilshaad demanded Rs50,000 from his wife Ashraf Bibi while he was away from home. “She told him we had no money and he shot her in front of several villagers. Then he beat my daughter and ran away,” he said. Rafia’s arm was broken and she has suffered a head injury.

She told police officials that her mother was shot at point blank range and Dilshaad escaped soon after.

Bukhsh told reporters that he submitted several applications regarding the matter with Musafir Khanna Police Station but the police was not cooperating with him. “They didn’t arrest Dilshaad and they weren’t even registering a case until I involved the press,” he said.  “Dilshaad has been threatening me and my daughter on the phone. He vowed to kill Rafia,” he added.

SHO Noor Nawaz said that police had lodged an FIR under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) against Dilshaad and police was searching for him.
