Out of work: Port workers demand private terminal
The private terminal is not allowed to deal in containerised or bagged grains.
KARACHI:
Hundreds of Port Qasim dock workers held a protest rally against the Fauji Akbar Portia Marine Terminal Ltd (FAP) on Wednesday, for putting them out of work. According to the agreement with the Port Qasim Authority, the private terminal is not allowed to deal in containerised or bagged grains. Workers claimed that a few days back the FAP violated the agreement and illegally berthed a rice-loaded ship which was supposed to berth at Port Qasim. Port Qasim has been criticised for hiring 700 more workers as well. The port already has 1,890 employees who are struggling to find work.
