Lawyers boycotted court proceedings across Balochistan on Wednesday to protest the killing of Lawyer Malik Sadiq.
Sadiq was shot and injured by unknown assailants in Hub, an industrial town in Lasbela district. He succumbed to his injuries at the hospital where he was admitted.
The strike call was given by the Balochistan Bar Association (BBA) and the Balochistan High Court. Hearings were adjourned till the next date. President of BBA Dawood Kasi, senior lawyer Baz Mohammad Kakar and others condemned the killing in a press statement.
They demanded that the government and law enforcing agencies ensure the culprits are arrested. “It was not the first incident where a lawyer has fallen victim to a target killing. The government must restore the writ of law in Balochistan where people are killed and kidnapped with complete impunity,” the lawyers said.
