CCPO assures lawyers community of action against Warraich's killers

Ahmad Raza Tahir says culprits will be brought before the law to be awarded exemplary punishment.

LAHORE: Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore Ahmad Raza Tahir has said that the police is investigating the murder of Advocate Nasrullah Warraich and has assured lawyers that the culprits will be apprehended soon.

Tahir, who was speaking to a delegation of lawyers on Wednesday, said that the culprits will be brought before the law to be awarded exemplary punishment.

Advocate Nasrullah Warraich, former chairman executive committee of Pakistan Bar Council, was gunned down by two unknown assailants outside his house on January 10. According to Warraich’s friends, the assailants approached the advocate posing as clients and fled after shooting him in the head at the entrance of his house.

According to a statement, the CCPO said that the process of submitting challans of heinous crimes to relevant courts should be intensified and a merit-based investigation of all cases should be carried out.

He said that Lahore Police will extend all out cooperation to the lawyers community for speedy disposal of cases in the courts. Tahir added that Lahore Police was dedicated to providing all out assistance to the legal community to ensure predominance of the law.

The CCPO said that a daily review of the situation was being conducted in the city and effective steps were being taken to eliminate crime and criminal elements. He further added that the judges and witnesses of terrorism cases were being provided special protection under the anti-terrorism strategy.

Senior police officials, including DIG Investigation Ali Amir Malik and DIR Operations Ghulam Mehmood Dogar, were also present at the meeting.

Members of the lawyers’ delegation included Senior Vice President Malik Faiz Khokhar, Vice President Rana Javaid Bashir Khan, Vice President Model Town Agha Shazaib Masood, General Secretary Jawad Akber Gill, Secretary Asad Zaidi, Joint Secretary Saima Malik, Finance Secretary Malik liaqat Awan, Library Secretary Sheikh Muhammad Amir, Auditor Mumtaz Malik Awan, Inam-ul-Haq Pasha, M. Anwar Khan Rana, Neik Muhammad Chaudhry, Ali Raza Kabeer, Zaikria Yousaf Toor, Sajid Munawar Qureshi, Zia-ul-Hassan, Rana Asim Zubair, Jamil-u-Din Wasan Muhammad Amir Bhatti and Hisam-ud-Din.
