The judge had asked for DSP’s medical record at the last hearing.

LAHORE:

Another case of extra judicial killing that made it to the court ended on Monday after the parents of the victim pardoned the accused police officials.

Counsel for the complainant moved an application stating that his clients Jahangir Butt and Jamila Begum, parents of the victim, had agreed to forgive the four officials involved. The court recorded the statements of the parents who said they had forgiven the accused and waived their rights to Qisas and Diyat.

The additional district and sessions judge directed the Revenue officer concerned to submit a list of legal heirs of the deceased by January 20.

The accused police officials included a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Riasat Bajwa. The others were Riaz Ahmed, Abdul Qadir and Asif Masih.

In previous proceedings, the complainant had submitted an application requesting that the court direct Services Hospital medical superintendent to submit the medical record of the accused DSP who had not attended the case proceedings.

The judge had asked for the DSP’s medical record.

According to the prosecution, three people including the complainant’s son Shehbaz Butt had stormed into Makkah Medical Store in Youhanabad a few months ago and taken away Rs35,000. The shop owner caught Butt as his two accomplices fled the scene.

A Muhafiz Squad team, including Sub Inspector Riaz took Butt into custody. Butt’s parents said that their son had been killed in a staged encounter at Rohi Nala.

Cases against the four police officials had been registered after Chung Police Training School (PTS) principal DIG Major (retd) Mubashirullah conducted an inquiry concluding that the officials should be prosecuted.
