VC Appointment: PU faculty disagree

Groups of faculty members at the PU disagreed over the issue of university ratings and leadership.

LAHORE:

Groups of faculty members at the Punjab University disagreed on Friday over the issue of university ratings and leadership.

The issue was triggered by the Academic Staff Association (ASA) who held a press conference at the Lahore Press Club. Its president, Dr Maher Saeed Akhtar, said that university ranking had slipped from number four to number five in Dr Mujahid Kamran’s tenure as vice chancellor. He demanded that Kamran not be given an extension. He also alleged that the VC had made illegal appointments, an issue that he said was also discussed in the Punjab Assembly.

The rival faculty group termed the allegations “baseless”. Shamaila Gull, PU Syndicate member, called the ASA a “dummy organisation”. They were rejected by the teacher’s community in syndicate elections, she said.
