A training workshop was organised on tunnel farming in Sargodha on Friday. The workshop was organised jointly by the Sargodha Chamber of Commerce and Industries (SCCI) and the Small and Medium Enterprise Authority (Smeda) to raise awareness about tunnel farming as a way to increasing production and growing non-season vegetables.
Addressing the workshop, SCCI President Mazhar Ahmed Malik and Vice-President Mirza Fazalur Rehman said significant improvement in agriculture output could be achieved by promotion of mechanised farming techniques. He said the country’s economy was dependent on agriculture and that economic progress was not possible without achieving improvements in agricultural production.
They urged the government to provide facilities to farmers for adopting technologies that would enable them in increasing per-acre production. Smeda assistant manager Asad Humayun said the authority was offering assistance to small- and middle-level businesses through training programmes and workshops. Dr Sajid Sindhu, Sapna Obroy, Dr Maqbool Sial and Nasir Javed Ghumman also addressed the ceremony.
