QUETTA: Provincial Minister for Revenue Zamruk Khan Achakzai allegedly beat up the Superintendent of Board of Revenue at the Provincial Secretariat on Monday following a personal dispute.

According the Sayed Khyamuddin, the Superintendent of Board of Revenue, he was sitting in his office when the Provincial Minister along with his armed guards entered his office and hurled abusive words at him. Subsequently the Minister struck him a blow and his guards joined in soon after, using the hard stocks on their rifles to beat the Superintendent. Staff at the office intervened and attempted to placate the matter.

“The minister beat me up,” Khayamuddin told reporters after the incident.

Following the incident, the Clerk Association of Provincial Secretariat staged a protest demonstration outside the Secretariat. They raised slogans against the provincial minister.

Upon being asked for his side of the story, Achakzai rejected the allegation that he had beaten the Superintendent, and that statements to the contrary were fabrications. “He [Sayed Khyamuddin] has lied before the media.”

After successful negotiations, the issue was settled between the minister and his staff members.

According to sources, the Superintendent and Minister belonged to same district and their enmity sprung from a domestic dispute. “The Minister came early in the morning after a visit to his hometown and beat up the Superintendent.”

Sources said that the Provincial Home Secretary had played an important part in resolving the dispute as hundreds of clerks gathered outside to protest against the minister.

Some of the protesting clerks locked all the offices in the secretariat, disallowing any one to enter the secretariat block where the incident had taken place.
