ISLAMABAD:

In a bid to revive and preserve classical music, an evening was dedicated to the performing art form at the Sir Syed Memorial University here on Thursday.

Shaukat Manzoor along with Ustad Salamat Ali Khan, of the famed Sham Churasi gharana, enthralled a select audience of classical music lovers. Their band was supported by Ajmal on the tabla and Ashraf on harmonium. Also performing at the event was a young female student by the name Pareesa Haroon, who is being trained by the Patiala gharana.

Former culture minister Pir Aftab Hussain was also present at the event. The guests enjoyed performances and encouraged the continuation of such functions. Manzoor thanked the audience for their support, “Singing is a difficult task and requires extreme training and concentration,” he said. The event was held under the Mausikaar programme of Marriott hotel.
