Hair dressers condemn acid attack on barber

‘Protests will spread if the chief minister does not announce compensation’.

LAHORE:

The All Pakistan Hair Dressers and Beautician Federation (APHDBF) staged a demonstration here on Saturday to condemn an acid attack on a barber.

The barber, Ibrahim, was allegedly blinded by feudals with whom he had had a long-running dispute in Shah Bilawal, a small village some 45 kilometres from Nankana.

“If the chief minister is truly Khadim-i-Ala [chief servant], he will step forward and announce a special lifetime support package for Ibrahim,” said APHDBF President Muhammad Shafiq, addressing some three dozen protestors.

“This case of brutality should be tried in an anti-terrorism court. If the government fails to do so we will protest throughout Punjab,” he said.

The victim’s brother Ifrahim told The Express Tribune at the protest that Ibrahim had earlier spent four months in jail on a false theft case registered on the complaint of the same feudals. He said that Ibrahim’s only ‘crime’ was to have cursed a man who had broken up his marriage.

Complainant Waseem Ahmad said he had no blood ties with Ibrahim, but had decided to take on the responsibility of being the complainant because the attackers’ actions were inhuman.

Syedwala Station House Officer Feroze Bhatti said that all seven accused in the acid attack had been remanded.
