Sessions Court: Work on new courtrooms begins

LAHORE:

Justice Umar Ata Bandial inaugurated the construction of a new building housing courtrooms and lawyers chambers at the old Sessions Court on Saturday.

The Judicial Complex will include seven courtrooms on the ground floor, eight on the first floor and eight on the second floor, 672 offices for lawyers and two basements with space to park around 400 cars. The project will cost around Rs795.915 million.

Addressing lawyers after the inauguration ceremony, Justice Bandial said that sincerity and hard work were essential qualities a judge must have to give speedy justice.

He said judges should make balanced decisions. The best decision, he said, was one which both parties agreed to and which did not end up in the appeals process. He praised the Lahore Bar Association (LBA), saying it had no parallel anywhere in the world, and assured LBA President Shehzad Hassan Shaikh that his request for the construction of a bridge from the bar room at Aiwan-i-Adl to the court building, and for raises for court staffers, would be considered.

District and Sessions Judge Mujahid Mustaqeem Ahmed recalled the day that the issue of lack of courtrooms was raised in the chamber of the chief justice of the Lahore High Court.

He said he was very happy to see the project coming to fruition.
