Another fake degree...

Senior Minister Rahim Dad Khan is the latest elected representative to fall prey to the fake degree hunt.

ISLAMABAD: Senior Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rahim Dad Khan is the latest elected representative to fall prey to the fake degree hunt.

Gomal University declared Khan's graduate degree as fake on Friday.

Higher Education Commission sources say universities have declared degrees of another three senior ministers including Minister for Labour and Sports, as fake.

Final report of the HEC has been presented to the Education Minister Sardar Assef. Details of the report show 46 degrees have been declared fake after verification and 223 degrees have been confirmed as authentic.

Verification of another 10 degrees is in process.

Meanwhile, US and British Universities have denied cooperation in verification of 13 other degrees and have asked for written statement of degree holders.

Under these circumstances, verification process of the degrees may not meet the deadline of July 27th.

zainab nasir | 13 years ago | Reply This fake degree issue should not have beeen raised if th egovt is not willing to remove the culprits now that it is clear who the defaulters are we should all be united against fake degree and its users. This is the only way PPP can come out of this scandal otherwsise PPP is gone.

alia | 13 years ago | Reply I totally aggree with all my fellow Pakistaniz this fake degreee issue is something which can not be ignored and the black sheeeps who gave fake deggrees should be punished, jailed, and removed from politics forever. If these people are not punished according to law then all those who have been recently removed from PIA nd other isntitutions should be called back on their jobs with a 12 gun salute. I believe if there is a law it should be for every one NO one is excused being a politician or a legal heire of a political party . I salute zardari and bilawal in this regard at leaset they have proper deegrees long live bilawal

Ahmad Raza Khan | 13 years ago | Reply the issue of fake degrees of the MPs is indicative of the moral terpitude of the politicians. All politicians are not bad but by keeping mum on the issue , many ploiticians have maligned the entire community. This point should be noted that it was the lust for power, which forced the fraudelent politicians to commit forgery and not the love for socail work. The state should be clear on the issue that such forgery and corruption is tolerable or not? It is high time that the state functionries take stock of the issue and throw the garbage out of their corners otherwise it will ruin the atomosphere of the whole political system in Pakistan. The law is quite clear , and there is a punishment for cheaters in the criminal law. The question is ..has the present government will to try these cheaters in the court of law or not ? If the courts set the standards of morality and throw these cheaters out of poltics then the government should not blame the courts for judicial activism..

"these parliamentarians" contains all MPs. It is not only fake degree holders, but the others also have been involved in nepotism and corruption. Any corrupt Parliamentarian should be punished for his crime irrespective of his degree or non degree. It is not the fake degree, but the presence of this unjust law against a democracy is SHAMEFUL. "I Disagree with that, We don’t let the command of the country with illitrate peoples, i think post graduate degree should compulsory." I respect your disagreement. The democracy is of the people. The people is sovereign to govern itself. The illiterates are also the people. You can not establish a democracy of a certain privileged class. Socrate proposed to establish the democracy of philosophers. Do you what know happened to him? "Oh no! It is not a matter of a degree. It is a case of plain fraud and dishonesty, punishable with three years imprisonment under the constitution of Pakistan." If it is a question of law and constitution, then I have nothing to add to my above statement concerning this law.

Samandar Khan | 13 years ago | Reply As long as this country is called 'the Islamic republic of Pakistan' on paper, there is definitely a punishment on paper for a muslim who lies under oath. (whether this country is really an Islamic republic is another matter, so don't break into that). The dictator placed the the so as to remove much of his opposition out of the way. I really don't understand why you are after the 'intellectual' class. In fact I would love to know how you define these intellectuals. And if a person, or a degree is proved to be fake, they should certainly not be defended, but rather be punished severely. Common fraud. Perhaps thats the law. But there should be a difference in committing fraud with one person and 170 million. Peace Samandar

peacelover | 13 years ago | Reply certainly, the issue of no degree, real degree, or fake degree does not arise under a democratic system. but that is not what is at stake here. these parliamentarians have brought shame to the system, to the country and to themselves. at the time of their election a law was in force. they were governed by that law. it required of them to have a degree. they flouted that condition. they cheated. they violated the law. they lied. they conspired against the system. they are criminals and must be dealt with like ordinary criminals who break the law. by calling it a conspiracy against democracy is the real conspiracy to shelter the criminals. all laws of the land applicable in a crime like this must be applied to prosecute the offenders. stop playing the democracy ball to sidetrack the criminality of these so-called parliamentarians.

Any person who takes an oath, on any holy book, may lie to his own God and not to the people of Pakistan. The people of Pakistan have never asked their representatives to be degree holders. It is the degree holder enlightened Pakistani intellectuals who wanted and wished for it. An enlightened Dictator rewarded them for their faithful services. As for the fake degree, any such person who holds this degree should be punished according to the law of the land. It is also true for any fake object, reward or a person.

Yes, placing the requirement of a degree is undemocratic as it does not provide the opportunity to everyone to run for elections. However, the 43 or more politicians how took an oath on the Quran to serve the people of Pakistan honestly, LIED to the people of Pakistan under oath. Muhammad Ahsan Khan | 13 years ago | Reply The question of degree, fake degree or no-degree should not exist in a Democratic State where each citizen has the same civil rights irrespective of no- fake- or real-degree. This whole Situation has been created by the educated class (the degree holders) to be on the side of the ruling class. This attitude is anti-democratic and also against the interest of the majority of illiterate People of Pakistan.
