Sales Tax: Power loom operators protest

Protest to berate the government for imposing sales tax on the industry.

FAISALABAD:
Power loom operators set up a protest camp at Clock Tower here on Monday to berate the government for imposing sales tax on the industry. A large number of power loom owners, including office-bearers of the Council of Loom Owners Association, protested at the camp which displayed banners inscribed with slogans against sales tax. The industrialists said earlier the government had exempted the power loom industry from sales tax, but now the tax had been imposed, which would add to their woes. Elaborating, they said the industry was already reeling from high input costs coupled with continuous increase in electricity tariffs and the imposition of sales tax would aggravate the situation and leave millions of workers jobless.
