Jhelum Excise and Taxation department seals WAPDA's complaint office

Department also seals office and residence of senior district officer for not paying property tax.

The Excise and Taxation department of Jhelum sealed the complaint cell and office of Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) and also residence of a senior district officer for not paying property tax, reported Express 24/7 Sunday.

Sources said that the Excise department had sent several notices to these departments and individuals but they did not respond.

According to Excise and Taxation department's deputy director, Wapda owes one million rupees in property tax.

The department was of the opinion that the offices and residences were sealed after giving them sufficient time.

Meanwhile, the Sindh Excise and Taxation Department surpassed its set target of tax collection by 16 per cent and recovered Rs23.4 billion in the financial year 2011.

Director General Excise and Taxation Shoaib Siddiqui, in a briefing to the minister, said that Rs3.5 billion has been collected as infrastructure duty cess in the form of bank guarantee as per a court order and this amount is included in the collection made during 2010-2011.

However, Rs162.6 million was collected, under the head of cotton fee, against the target of Rs250 million.
