Minhajul Quran chief Dr Tahirul Qadri said on Saturday rebellion against the status quo was the only way left to bring about a change in the country. He said neither a military regime nor electoral politics could be trusted with managing the affairs of the country.
Qadri was addressing a video conference titled Students’ Awareness Convention at Nasser Bagh on Saturday.
The gathering was organised by Mustafvi Students Movement (MSM).
He said he was only addressing students for now and that he would next convene a general public meeting at Minar-i-Pakistan to set in motion a revolution that he would lead.
He said two-party parliamentary democracy was successful in the ‘West’ but it required a system of accountability and an impartial election commission. He said in Pakistan a seat in the parliament was won by spending millions of rupees. “Will such parliamentarians serve the public or themselves?” he asked the audience.
He said the parliament had so far only facilitated suicides and deprived people of jobs.
Qadri said only few families controlled the affairs of the country.
He said the rulers had turned the country into a colony of foreign powers.
He said the country lacked an effective foreign policy.
The gathering was attended by a large number of students. Many waved their party flags and chanted slogans in favour of Dr Tahirul Qadri. Speaking on the occasion, MSM President Tajammul Hussain praised Qadri’s leadership and said the MSM members were ready to render sacrifices on the call of its leader.

@Seher Siddiqui: sorry to say, this is an un Islamic approach that politics and religion cannot go together . if we study the life of Prophet Muhammad SAW he did this in his life and that is Prime example for us because he was religious and political leader at same time .
@M.K.: My Bro. The point you have raised is loved by all so called political "leaders", they have always camouflaged under this ugly slogan, and tried to be the Masters of our destiney instead of prooving them our well wishers & saviors. we hate both Militery and Civil Dictatorship, the later is even worst as it is beautifuly painted with Democracy, Islam, Fundamental rights etc etc. WE CAN`T LET OUR 4th GENERATION BE FOOLED BY THIS CURROPT POLITICAL & ELECTORAL SYSTEM. we must have to struggle against this system to bring about a positive change, where every one can participate in Nation building.
This is the Ideology of Minhaj ul Quran & Dr. Muhammad Tahir ul Qadri.
Mr.Tahirul Qadri should replay the video of his son's valima and then decide if his income justify the expenses on that occasion. Lets not be trapped by hollow slogans and multi faced people. Religion and politics should not be mixed up. We have already paid exorbitant price for this mix up and see no respite in future. God Help Islam, God help Pakistan.
If he is firm in his stance,he should go for alliance with Imran.
The system of democracy is a slow process. It needs time to filter out the bad eggs and bring the good ones to the top. We should not compare Pakistani democracy to Westren democracies or even India. They are countries where democracy has evolved because it was given the chance to evolve. On the other hand Pakistan was always, is and probably in the future will be ruled by establishment.
