Fourteen arrested in Steel Mills case: report

The Deputy Attorney General has submitted an inquiry report in the Supreme Court (SC) on the Steel Mills Corrupti­on.

The Deputy Attorney General has submitted an inquiry report in the Supreme Court (SC) on the Steel Mills Corruption Case.

The report stated that 14 people have been arrested in the Steel Mills case so far including steel dealers and officers of the mill. Deputy Attorney General Abid Saqi told the court that a change in preliminary caused the Steel Mills a loss of Rs8 billion in 2008-2009.

He said the FIA was hindering the investigation while the dealers of the Steel Mills have accused the FIA of a biased investigation into the Rs22 billion  scam.

Khalid Anwar council of one of the dealers said that Riaz Lalji should have been booked instead of his employees. He added that the prime suspects and accused in the case are on pre-arrest bails. Anwar said that PSM , PIA and Railways are causing over Rs250 billion loss to the national exchequer.

Justice Ramday asks Deputy Attorney General Saqi to explain why the investigation agency had not moved for cancellation of the bail of the main accused.
